Margarita Mile and what not

We headed to Orlando for a very short trip to visit my sister, mother, and family as well as run in the Margarita Mile hosted by the downtown YMCA running club.  I managed a 5:24 with a 2:45 / 2:39 split.  Not too bad, I was psyched.  Afterwards we hung out with the gang for several hours until I was too tired to talk anymore.

Busy days right now.  High school cross-country season has begun in earnest and I am spending most afternoons working with the team.  We have a good crew this year and I'm psyched for the season.

Had a bit of rumbling with the earthquake today, I wasn't sure if a train was coming by or if our dogs (we are dogsitting a buddy for Tassie this week) were going crazy.  Turns out a 5.8 earthquake was going off in Virginia.  And we have a hurricane headed this way.  Zombies and vampires coming soon.

Speaking of vampires...I watched Priest last night.  I enjoyed it.

And that is all you need to know.

Still here

Still kicking it, been busy.  Went up to Atlantic City NJ for the weekend with my Dad and brother-in-law for good times with the guys.  Went down and watched the South Jersey Lifeguard championship races in Margate.  These are always fun and the athletes are amazing.  This is the big race in the SJ lifeguard arena.  My patrol won the event with 2nd place in the doubles row and the singles row.  I will put up a few pictures in this post tomorrow.  Afterwards went to a semi-reunion and caught up with a bunch of old buddies.

 World famous Steel Pier

 A beach in South Jersey
All the Jersey shore people are New Yorkers you know

Start of the Doubles row (1.5 mile 2 man row in 400 pound lifeguard boat)

Getting into the boat through waves is the toughest part

 Everyone wants to watch!

Waiting for the 1/2 mile swim

On Saturday night I swam in the 40th Annual Yates Swim in Atlantic City.  This was a box format (500 or so yards out, 500 across, 500 back in) and the conditions were rough/choppy.  Great practice.  I finished 9th which is not bad for swimming about 5,000 yards a week these days.

Next weekend we are off to Orlando for a quick trip.   Margarita Mile on Saturday night.

That's all.

Old School Aquathon in the books

The Old School Aquathon series is in the books.  We had pretty good turnout for each event and a lot of positive feedback from the racers.  I hope we can host these again next year.  Big thanks to FS Series and Inside Out Sports for supporting the races.  As well as all the volunteer help from our Masters swim team and athlete base.  Much appreciated!

I snuck into the race unofficially and enjoyed participating, I have been jealous of everyone racing.

I would write a blog post about our New England vacation but Bri has pretty much taken care of that one.  Just read her blog.

I am off to Atlantic City next weekend for some guy-time with my Dad and brother-in-law.  Found out that the 40th annual Yates Swim is on Saturday evening so I will jump in that.  It is a mile race that has been around longer than me, I swam it several times when I lived in NJ during the summers.  I won't be as fast as back then but I am way smarter and better looking now.
