Erie Canal day 5

Another 50 miles from Syracuse to Rome. A mix of trails and road. The canal in this area is not a transport canal, more of a cultural relic and small tourist attraction. Big carp all throughout.

Tomorrow we're going to roll out with the group then come back to our hotel, shower up, then drive down to NYC. No plans other than a run in Central Park. Lame, right?

From the brewery last night:

Rolling out of Syracuse:

Where they drydocked the canal boats for repairs:

Getting near our hotel, checking maps:

We have not run much at all this week, and don't care.

6th anniversary photo tour

Since I have a memory like an elephant that can't remember where it is or that it is even an elephant, it is good to have this web diary thing to remind me of the fun places we have gone and the fun things we have done.

On Friday we started our ride just outside Maggie Valley, and rode up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The ride to the parkway was way tougher than the parkway itself.

Maggie Valley is around 3,000 feet, and this sign is at 6,000 feet, and we didn't catch a cab.

After the ride we spent some time in Jonathan Creek, chilling out. Tassie did not like the rock you can just make out on the right side of this picture.

Later that evening we headed to downtown Waynesville to have an early dinner at Nick and Nate's pizzeria. Bri and I have a very similar picture, I believe it might even be the same booth, from our 1st year anniversary, but I would have to dig that out of the archives.

Anytime we went anywhere without our little Tassie, she let us know she wasn't happy about it.

But she got some 1-1 Bri time later that evening.

On Saturday we did a short run then had breakfast at Joey's Pancake House in Maggie Valley. Joey's is good food. Tassie was tired and slept in the sun later.

We also did some fishing throughout the weekend. I had one real bite but was not able to catch anything.

Tassie said I should throw it "over there."

On Sunday morning we did one more ride, a nice hilly short route from the house.

After the loop we rode into town for some snacks at the Grizzly Grill. If you ever need ride nutrition information, I am your man.

But I don't want that to be the last image you have of us for today.

Our next big bike weekend will be June 18-20 with a whole gang of riders/triathletes in Boone. Vacationing in the mountains with no agenda is nice.

new post

So I am making this post just to get the dude with the big quads and shrunken weenie off the top of my blog. Too many of you were enjoying that.

The sun is finally making an appearance here after 5 days of disturbingly cold and shitty weather. I was starting to get pissy about it.

Tomorrow I will ride big miles since I am out to impress my numero uno.

I am lobbying Bri that we should buy a cabin in the mountains of Western NC. There are some nice log cabins coming online as people go belly up left and right. Like 100K for some brand new, good locations, and acreage in an accessible area. Anyone want to go 50/50 on one? Drop me a line for shizzle. No freaks or weirdos. Wait, that disqualifies all of you who read this. Damn.

Sleeping in and other fun things to do on Saturday

As you may surmise from the title of this post, we opted out of the 5:00 AM wakeup call to get to the Mission Man tri in time. Instead, Bri and I slept in and then went for a leisurely bike ride on a cool Saturday morning. Bri is intent on whipping me back into shape before I turn into a complete pile of sludge. She made me do intervals with her. And we went far! She is a tough coach but a good one. Anyhoo. Off to Boone/Sugar Mountain in a bit. Going to get some running in tomorrow.

That's not really us in the picture but these posts are more interesting with some sort of visual effect.
